A pre-Christmas event will be held at the Vegetable Pavilion of Riga Central Market on 23 December from 11:00 to 14:00 where everyone will be able to create special gifts and decorations, find ideas for the Christmas dinner, play games with Snow White as well as enjoy some musical performances!

Anatolijs Abramovs on behalf of Rīgas Centrāltirgus RPAS: When the holiday is coming, we all are thinking of how to make our closest people happy. That is the reason why Riga Central Market is turned in to a real holiday workshop – merchants are supplying the best treats for rich Christmas dinners, the most beautiful Christmas trees to decorate your homes, and the sweetest gifts for a ture holiday mood.  Each year, we, the management of Riga Central Market, try to provide the visitors and merchants with a sweet and warm pre-holiday event, so that every visitor of Central Market would go home satisfied, cheerful, and with many new ideas for the holiday.

There will be creative workshops throughout the whole event. The decoration workshop will allow everyone to make the traditional Latvian Christmas ornament – puzurs (a straw ornament) and decorate the Christmas tree at the Vegetable Pavilion or at one’s own home.  Both children and adults will be able to create their own gingerbread man at the gingerbread glazing workshop. Right there at the Vegetable Pavilion you will have a chance to paint dishes or fabric bags as well as create unique picture frames which may become a very sweet gift to some of your close ones. Further on, you may create a mask for masquerade at the mask creation workshop.  Besides, the hardworking dwarfs will help with wrapping both self-made gifts and those purchased at the Central Market.

You will also be able to purchase unique and heart-warming gifts at the traditional artisans Christmas fair which takes place from 22 to 23 December at the Nēģu Street lot of the Central Market.

Inspiration for the Christmas dinner will be provided by the new cooks of Ventspils Vocational School who will not only treat the visitors  with some food, but also share advices and recipe secrets to have the most delicious dishes at the Christmas table.  Apart from that, healthy lifestyle enthusiast Kārlis Birmanis will warm up the visitors with a warm drink as well as share some ideas for making healthy drinks full of vitamins.

Musical background at the pavilion will be provided by guitar virtuoso Rihards Lībietis as well as some other musical performers.

The event will be hosted by Snow White herself who will also try to do her best to engage the audience. Children will be entrained by the cheerful mascots of Riga Central Market – Groziņš (the Little Basket) and Turziņa (the Little Cornet). All of the activities throughout the event are free of charge.  We kindly invite you to prepare for the Christmas dinner, find lovely gifts as well as get involved in creative and exciting activities in a very positive atmosphere!
